ATTACKED DURING THE NIGHT

THE OTHER MORNING---JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER MORNING I TOOK THE DOGS OUT. THEN I WENT ON TO CHECK THE KOI, THE LOTUS AND HERB GARDEN. IMMEDIATELY SOMETHING LOOKED ODD---THE LOTUS LEAVES THAT HAD BEEN STANDING UP IN THE BOWL WERE NOW KINDA SMASHED AND THE DUCKWEED HAD BEEN SHOVED TO ONE SIDE. IT DIDN’T REGISTER IMMEDIATELY I THOUGHT MAYBE IT HAD BEEN WINDY? WHEN I GOT TO THE KOI POND YOU COULD TELL THAT SOMETHING HAD TRIED TO GET AT THE FISH----THERE WERE SEVERAL AREAS WHERE THE MARGINALS HAD BEEN STOMPED ON. MY RED CANNA WAS PUSHED OVER ----BUT SURVIVED. WHEN THINGS LIKE THIS HAPPEN I FEEL SO VIOLATED----WHAT WAS IT---A RACOON---A CAT----BIG FOOT?
SO I GOT OUT THE TRAP AND BAITED IT WITH TRADER JOE’S SARDINES (FIGURED I MIGHT HAVE A GOURMET PREDITOR) AND DID DAMAGE CONTROL AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE PICTURES. WHATEVER GOT IN HASN’T COME BACK AGAIN…YET…..BUT IT DID SWAT SEVERAL MOSQUITO FISH OUT OF THE LOTUS AND POND BUCKETS.

If it was a raccoon, it probably would have been back if it had been successful that first time.

My vote is for bigfoot.

I hate it when you have to use chairs and whatnot to try to keep something out of your beautiful garden. Our dog manages to mangle things a few times a year, so I can relate there...

Katie--i'm glad you understand how pissed i am to have to barricade the area. I'm giving it another few days and if it hasn't returned i will restore the area to it's natural beauty.

I can totally understand how you feel about this. I would too. I've been through this and had damage both by humans and animals. Could it have been human. I forget where you live, but what about a bear? Or could dogs have been chasing each other. But to turn over all that lawn furniture would need to be pretty out of control and large. I don't think a raccoon would do this kind of wild ravaging. They can knock over trash cans to get into them but they wouldn't do all the lawn furniture. I also think a raccoon might have come back. What other wildlife do you have in your area? I am sorry to hear this as I know how much it means to you and how much work you put into it. I am sending a big hug and my sympathies. robin

Robin---you made me laugh----i must not have explained the situation properly. I was the one who covered the pots and put the lawn chairs around to protect the koi and mosquito fish. I hope there isn't a racoon big enough to redecorate with my lawn furniture. I was away for a few days and now that i've returned and haven't noticed any damage i will return everything to normal. We live in the California low desert and there aren't any bears--just coyotes ( i did suspect a coyote) and we've never seen a racoon. It could be a cat which really ticks me off that people let their cats roam into other peoples yards.
thanks for making me laugh!!!!

Oh my gawd!!! I am laughing my face off right now, out loud!!! After reading your comment and then going back reading mine I HOWLED!!! I read the post twice as I was so blown away by the damage, but I must have missed something. That IS hysterical. I love it. And I love that you told me to come back and read your comment. I am STILL laughing. Thank YOU for the laughs. I love it!! :) :)
